Organic farming is a form of agriculture that relies on crop rotation, green manure, compost, biological pest control
and mechanical cultivation to maintain soil productivity and control pests.
Since in urban cities limitation is insufficient land for farming, the concept of terrace farming, vertical and container farmings are upcoming trends in urban farming. Here in this blog I will be sharing every single effort and techniques in building my Organic Roof :)

Long Bean (Valli Payar)

A different type of bean, which is longer in length but thinner in shape compared other beans. In India this is again found in south India. In Malayalam it is called 'Valli payar'. Seeds usually thick black in color and germinated in a semi soaked hydroponic  filled tray or any tumbler so that it can be transplanted to bigger container once the seedling appears.

Positioned the plant very next to the constructed net like structure. so that it can spread across the net.

Leaves are longer and light green in color. This image is taken after 20 days from the day of germination.

Pest Control Tips:

After 4o days plant started producing flowers.
Slightly violet in color and looks almost like an Orchid flower.

I could initially find that the flowers were falling , then noticed that there was worm attack. Also another threat to the buds are the very common red ants.

This image shows the long beans which is yet to grow in length and size.

    1. The reason could be over watering if it is planted in pot or grow bags. Please provide more details.
